3 things to Prevent getting stuck with Newitis.

As we look forward to New Year’s Eve 2011 and the start of 2012, many people are thinking that on January 1 things will

change. And they will but not necessarily in the way we expect.

We make New Years Resolutions because we want to change something and for most people that means they will be disappointed or feel depressed as they fail to keep their resolutions.

New Year Resolution makers often get stuck because they believe that if only they do something different then their life will be better. But often these goal setters miss their goals because they find achieving those goals either too hard, too big a change in their lives or they lack the full motivation to change.

As we go into 2012, or for that matter on any day, there are 3 things that you can do to prevent from getting stuck thinking that the new will fix your life.

One important thing is to recognize that TODAY is your day. You have today and today only.

Today you keep your commitments, your word.

Today you take nothing personal.

Today you assume the minimum possible especially about someone else’s actions or opinions.

Today you regret nothing

And Today you do your best. And when you miss doing your best, you learn and make a different mistakes next time. Perfection is a figment of imagination.

Next step is to believe in yourself. If today is all you have, then recognize you are all you have too.

You are perfect today and tomorrow you will be better. But there is only today, and today you are the best example of YOU right now.

This step is not always easy because we are often conditioned and trained and reminded by others that we need to do better.  And that often means that we are letting others judge who we are and how we are.

Look at your purpose in life. Your purpose is  unique to you and when you live on purpose you are being your best and doing your best so live that purpose.

As an aside, when you live on purpose, you achieve goals better too.

And the third thing to prevent getting sucked into newitis is to realize that there is nothing really new, just new ways of expressing the old ideas. When you see something, decide if it

fits your purpose,

helps you do better and

if you can be better off by having the new.

And since tomorrow never really comes because by the time you move into tomorrow it has become today, you expect only this moment.

Enjoy Today.

Tomorrow will take care of itself. You can affect your tomorrow by the choices you make today but you need to act today.

Yesterday is gone and if you did something unhelpful to today, learn but whatever you do, don’t let it get you stuck in regret.

Excel by living today.

Forgive but never forget.

Move on and allow life to be full of new experiences.

Choose Today!

Choose You

Choose Control of choice. And live each day in 2012 in infinite love and gratitude.

Wishing you a 2012 with 365 Todays that are wonderful, marvelous YOU days!

I really loved how this post was set up, Roberta. You seem to have found a way to really hone in on the topic and emphasize it, so it sinks in. People often tell us how important “Today” us, but you really showed us why and how. I personally love that idea of focusing in on the moment and try to catch myself when my mind goes wandering and worrying!

Thanks for the excellent reminder to bring in the new year! =)

Samantha, enjoy today completely and let the mind wander sometimes too. It is amazing what a wondering mind sees and solves and a wandering mind is also living in Today

If you don’t take care of today- then tomorrow is too far away. if you keep thinking about yesterday, you can’t enjoy or do today. If you wonder about tomorrow, you won’t build today to have it tomorrow.
Today. 5 letters. 2 syllables. Prime numbers to keep you in your prime.

Hi Roberta,

You are so right to continue to focus this blog post on Today. I find that to many times I am focusing on the things I have to do tomorrow instead of taking action and doing for today what needs to be done.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this post. You have great ideas.

Cindy, one thing I keep learning as I get older is to value each day because I am unsure what else I have, except hope

I love this post, Roberta. It is a great message for entering the new year. I agree that we must live in the present moment and have an attitude of gratitude at all times.
I like what you said about “there is nothing really new, just new ways of expressing old ideas”. So true.
Happy New Year, Roberta!

Hi Roberta,
Nice to connect with you again.
I certainly reflect this post today, and could go one step further and say “this moment.” Yesterday was a difficult day, for I planned on doing then what I accomplished earlier this morning, yet could not because of being sick. But I did wonder yesterday if I was “stuck” and stopping myself from those pre-planned plans.
However, the best thing I did was to accept (and perhaps, believe) that I was OK where I was and tomorrow (today) would be better.
And it certainly has proven to be thus far.
Even though I worked through yesterday, your post gave me a good reminder on getting unstuck. Plus it gave me a new term, “newitis!”
Have a wonderful day!

Glad you are feeling better today Peggy. I find it amazing sometimes how the “enforced” waits actually get a more timely job done. Hope 2012 is healthy and fun and fundful, one day at a time
