Review Your WIIFM for 2014

WIIFM can help you get out of stuck and excel because it helps you focus on what really matters – the other person.

WIIFM is all about what service you can offer.

It means first and foremost stop thinking about yourself.

It means you are in business only as long as what you offer someone else is of value.

How will you offer value and meet the WIIFM of your clients for 2014?

Examples of WIIFM Mission statements

McDonald’s Mission is: to be our customers’ favorite place and way to eat and drink.

Nice to make this the favorite place to eat and drink but what is really in it for me? Will I eat and drink foods that are good for me? Personally 2 things I trust with McDonalds are that they are a great place to meet friends, business acquaintances and have the cleanest restrooms consistently around the world. I rarely eat there but their coffee is palatable.

Louis Vuitton group’s mission is The mission of the LVMH group is to represent the most refined qualities of Western “Art de Vivre” around the world. LVMH must continue to be synonymous with both elegance and creativity. Our products, and the cultural values they embody, blend tradition and innovation, and kindle dream and fantasy.”

Powerful statement and if Art de Vivre is where my passion was, then Louis Vuitton would be my prefered supplier. The WIIFM here is elitism as well as elegance and creativity. 

The Mission Statement of Swarovski is: We add sparkle to people’s everyday lives.” 

Personally I love Swarovski and they do add sparkle and rainbows to my life. But is this a WIIFM or is it just a good slogan?

“Facebook’s mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected.”

When I look at the WIIFM of Facebook and how it is used and abused, I wonder if many of the people using it understand the WIIFM here. I was watching a video from Sandy Krakowski today talking about social media and “WHY Interruption Marketing Does NOT Work On Social Media & How To Increase Sales The Relationship Way”  The key message is that social media is about sharing. Many people (me included) sometimes use it only to PUSH my stuff. Are you?

“Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”

They succeeded but what are they doing now with Google+ and all the other services? And have you done a search recently using more than one device? Did you get lots of different answers? Try it sometimes.

Three things to remember when you look at your mission and consider WIIFM

  1. Your mission and WIIFM change with time
  2. Your mission and WIIFM changes with the market
  3. Your mission and WIIFM change as you and your staff change

Review your WIIFM to get out of stuck and continue to grow your business and move forward.

    I couldn’t agree more with what you’re writing here:

    Forming a mission statement, or using similar exercises in order to get clear about what’s important is key to living with integrity. I think many people overlook the power of these kinds of mental exercises because they naturally assume that just because it’s “easy” to do, it won’t yield much.

    Also, another cool mental framework that’s very healthy to think of is:

    Product: – what’s you product?
    Customer: – who’s your ideal customer?
    Marketing & Promotion: – what can you do to reach out to your ideal customers?
    Sales: – how can you close the sales once you’ve become connected with the ideal customer?
